yéyé-ette girl : Pussy Cat

Pussy Cat (Evelyne Courtois) was born on the 14 th june 1948.  She stopped studying around the age of 15 to sing and drum for a female band called "Les Petites Souris" (the little mouses) in 1964. Then she started a solo career and got her first success with  "Ce n'est pas une vie" (the Small Faces’ song "Sha-la-la-la-lee") in 1966. She also recorded several covers of English tunes: "Stop" , " Si vous avez déjà aimé " ( "Have You Ever Loved Somebody") and original songs she composed until 1969. She said she was a great fan of Tom Jones (Mademoiselle Age Tendre 1967) so she probably chose her pseudo because of one of his songs called " Pussy Cat" edited in 1965.

Christie Laume, (Christie Lamboukas) is Théo Sarapo's sister (Edith Piaf 's last husband). She 's born on February 4, 1942. She recorded several EPs with some hits in the mid 60's : "J’ai besoin de toi ", "Rouge, rouge ", "Agathe ou Christie". She also had written books about religion and another about Edith Piaf since she used to live with her and her brother during their last years.

Sylvie Vartan, France Gall, Sheila and Françoise Hardy were the most famous and popular yéyé girls. There were a bunch of other talented singers as well, less well-known nowadays, but who deserve a long chapter in the history of yeye...

Chantal Kelly, (Chantal Bassignani)  8 th April 1950. She made 9 EPs in the 60's : "Caribou" ,"Mon ami mon Chien", "Ne perds pas ton temps", "Not' Prof' D'anglais", etc. She recorded an SP in 1981 and then retired from music.
